Film producer Dinesh Vijan recently gave his opinion on small budget Bollywood films. What is the present situation of Bollywood and how can it be more profitable when providing a good quality film at the same time.

Dinesh is a great producer who made so many blockbuster films like “Dangal”, “Hindi Medium” and “Secret Superstar” which all did very well at the box office. Recently his new horror film “Stree”  was released which is also getting a good response from the audience. When he was asked for his opinion on the filmmaking business in Bollywood, he shared his thoughts on this topic.
He said that small films should more focus on the promotion of their films. The films which do not have many big star casts in their films, they fail to run their films in the cinema halls and it very quickly gets out of the market. So, to stay in the race, they should do more promotions for their films. Vijan also said that filmmakers should also concentrate on the quality of the film. If the quality is not good and there is no star cast then it will be impossible to make that film profitable. If any producer is fully confident about his film then a good promotion will definitely give the great result.
At the same time Nandita Das, the director of film Manto questioned about the future of good films in India. She said that her film Manto, which is a very important film for our society and also got the nomination for the Oscar awards 2019, that film released in only 500 screens, where a commercial film like Batti Gul meter Chalu has released on 3000 screens, so it is so unfair that every film doesn’t get equal chances.

She also said that of course there are a few films like Queen which started very small but ended up with great success, but this type of examples are so rare and most of the films don’t get chance to reach to the audiences.

Dinesh also pointed out the music as the promotional medium. He said that the music is a great medium of marketing and producers can promote their movies with the songs of that film before the release of the film and reach to so many people via social media platforms. Though Manto also has one rap song in it titled “Mantoiyat”, sung by the singer Raftaar, Nandita doesn’t think that it will help to attract people to watch the film.
Some reporters also asked Vijan about the business opportunity of Bollywood films in China. Because his films Dangal, Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium it all made a good profit from China. In the reply, Dinesh said that every movie in Bollywood is not suitable for the Chinese audience. Most of the Indian movies go well there because of the cultural similarities between these two countries and the Hindi Medium was hit because the Chinese audience could relate to the emotions of that film. But an Indian horror film cannot run well in China.
Dinesh Vijan is now working on his next film “Made in China” and he told that he will try to make the sequel of the Hindi Medium after this project.
